This will be my first, and only weekend post of the Write 31 Days challenge.
While I’ve got quite the rebellious spirit (telling me to NOT do something only makes me want to do it/try it), I’ve also got quite the people pleasing streak in me. Plus whatever I’m doing, I only know how to do 110%. I’m an all or nothing kind of gal.
So this post and decision was hard for me.
I love the challenge of writing 31 days! It has been great motivation for me so far, and I’ve loved the community that’s a part of it (check out the #write31days on Instagram and twitter! So many great writers!). However, I’m not going to be writing all 31 days.
As much as I try to not let our schedule be, and not use the word…we are busy people. Keeping up with three kids is busy by itself (the laundry! and dishes!), but you add in sports and the practices and games, (mandatory for my boys and my sanity), trying to love well, going to church, piano practice, etc. life is just a little hectic.
Weekends are our time to BE, and to GATHER. Yes, we still have soccer games, friend hangouts and church, but even in that we try to be intentional about slowing down and BEING together.
I know myself, and I know that if I am still trying to write each day for 31 days, I will be at a computer most of the time I should be on the floor with my kids. So before I even try to “do it all”, I’m deciding that some things aren’t important enough to be done…at least on the weekends.
Maybe this weekend you need to Do the Hard Thing and reasses some priorities. Draw some healthy boundaries. Say no.
I’ve always been a “yes” sort of person.
{Yes, I can do that}
{Yes, I can make that}
{Yes, I can be team/room mom}
{Yes, I can come in early}
I’ve been perfecting my “no” this year, and it’s brought so much sanity to myself and my family, who I’m ultimately saying yes to!
It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it!
P.S. If you struggle saying yes a lot, like I did, I would HIGHLY recommend Lysa TerKurst’s book, The Best Yes!
