It’s been quiet around here with me out on vacation…which you are probably tired of seeing pics of if you follow me on Instagram. With the combination of vacation, and a personal goal I knew I would be undertaking, I thought quiet would do me some good. Of course my head wasn’t quiet, so I’ve simply been storing up thoughts and writing prompts. Which is good, because…
The Nester is hosting a challenge to encourage writers to write every day for 31 days on a specific topic.
The task feels daunting, challenging, and a bit overwhelming, so why not jump in?
As I lay in bed the other night thinking about what I would write about for 31 days, and what themes are in my head and heart in this season, one phrase came to mind: Do the Hard Thing.
I wrote a post entitled just that a few weeks ago. I’ve used the phrase in several of my recent writings, and on Instagram posts. It just keeps popping in my head, and I feel like it’s what I’m called to do in this season of life.
So…31 days of Do the Hard Thing.
I feel like as I look back over my years, the thing that over and over God has called me to do is the Hard Thing. While sometimes the choices and decision may have been easy, living them out has typically not been. I think the life of a Christian is one that feels dangerous, risky, hard, unsafe and unsettling. I think if for years at a time we can see ourselves not being pushed and prodded into uncomfortable circumstances we should be wary of that, and not view safe and comfortable as the goal.
I will be talking about the ways I’ve had to Do Hard Things. Some honest, and transparent, and some silly and goofy. I’m going to encourage you to do some Hard Things. And maybe I’ll teach you how to do something that seems like a Hard Thing to you (like sewing, or making a meal for guests!).
Here we go, starting October 1:

Sounds great! Going into 31 Days was indeed a hard thing…and exploring my topic will be harder still in some areas. I’m hoping that the Lord will help me learn, and document, what I need to move through the difficulties of this season. Happy Oct. 1st!

I’m so ready to read what you have to say about doing hard things! It’s something we always need others for, right?! It’s encouraging just to know there are people striving to say yes to God in the hard things, so this will be great. 🙂 I need it!
